NAIDOC WEEK 2026 🖤💛❤️💙🤍💚

NAIDOC Week 2026: 50 Years of Deadly!

From 5–12 July 2026, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities across Australia will come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week. This year marks a significant milestone – 50 years of NAIDOC Week celebrations, honouring the strength, resilience, achievements and contributions of First Nations peoples. The 2026 theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, celebrates the journey of our communities, the voices that paved the way, and the generations who continue to carry culture forward.

Honouring the Past

NAIDOC Week began as a movement for recognition, justice and equality. For five decades, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have used this week to celebrate culture, share stories, honour Elders and advocate for a stronger future. The theme “50 Years of Deadly” recognises those who stood strong before us – the Elders, activists, artists, leaders and community members whose courage and determination created opportunities for future generations.

As a First Nations woman, I know that every weaving, every story shared, every language spoken and every cultural practice passed down is part of keeping our culture strong. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us.

Celebrating Culture Today

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the world’s oldest continuing living cultures. Across Australia, communities will gather for flag raisings, cultural performances, art exhibitions, community events, workshops and storytelling.

For me, weaving is one of the ways we keep culture alive. Each strand woven together represents connection – to Country, to family, to community and to our Ancestors. Through Weaving Our Stories, I am privileged to share cultural knowledge and create spaces where people can connect through creativity, storytelling and respect.

Looking Forward

While NAIDOC Week celebrates our history, it is also about the future. The next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, artists, educators and changemakers are continuing the legacy of those who came before them. The future is strengthened when culture is shared, respected and celebrated.

This year’s milestone reminds us that culture is not something that belongs only in the past. It is living, growing and evolving through every generation.

Walking Together

As we celebrate 50 Years of Deadly, we honour the resilience of our Elders, celebrate the strength of our communities and look forward with hope for the generations to come.

At Weaving Our Stories, NAIDOC Week is more than a celebration—it is a reminder that culture lives through connection, sharing and community.

May we continue to listen, learn, celebrate and walk together with respect.

Happy NAIDOC Week 2026.

“Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.” ❤️💛🖤
