How weaving became my healing…

There was a time in my life when I wondered if I would ever feel like myself again.

After experiencing a traumatic brain injury as a result of domestic violence, my world changed overnight. The simplest things became difficult, and I was left trying to rebuild not only my health but also my sense of identity. There were days filled with pain, uncertainty, and questions about what my future would look like.

Then I found weaving.

At first, it wasn’t about creating beautiful baskets or earrings. It was about slowing down, one stitch at a time. As my hands worked with the raffia, my mind found moments of peace. The repetitive rhythm of weaving gave me something I hadn’t felt in a long time—calm.

Each coil became a reminder that healing doesn’t happen all at once. Just like a woven piece, healing is built little by little. One row. One day. One step forward.

As an Aboriginal woman, weaving also became a way to reconnect with culture and honour the generations before me. Our ancestors have woven for thousands of years, creating practical items while carrying stories, knowledge, and connection to Country. Every time I weave, I feel that connection in a deeply personal way.

What began as my own healing journey slowly became Weaving Our Stories.

Today, every pair of earrings, basket, weaving kit, and workshop carries a piece of that story. They’re more than handmade creations—they represent resilience, hope, and the belief that beauty can grow from even the hardest seasons of life.

One of the greatest joys has been watching others discover the same sense of peace through weaving. Whether someone joins one of my workshops, opens one of my weaving packs at home, or simply wears a pair of my earrings, I hope they feel the love, care, and meaning woven into every piece.

Healing looks different for everyone.

For me, it looked like raffia between my fingers, quiet moments of creativity, and rediscovering who I was through culture, faith, and perseverance.

Weaving didn’t erase my past.

But it helped me move forward.

And that’s the story woven into every piece I create.
